New cold chain facility in Bagalkot, Karnataka

New Delhi, Nov 24 (KNN) As a part of its initiative to enhance post-harvesting facilities in the state, the Karnataka State Agriculture Produce Processing and Export Corporation Limited (KAPPEC) has set up a new cold chain facility in the northern Karnataka town of Bagalkot.

The newly established multi-food processing facility houses a pack house, grading-sorting line, pre cooling units, cold storages (high humidity and also normal), ripening chambers, aril packing unit and allied equipment.

It was designed and financed under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), as per a press notification.

In this context, the corporation has inviting bids from experienced and reputed agencies to take care of operation, maintenance and management (OM&M) of the cold chain at Agro Tech Park KIADB industrial area.

The Karnataka government in the budget 2006-07 sanctioned an amount of Rs 10 crore to KAPPEC for creating necessary post-harvest infrastructure facilities in different parts of the state based on potential in a phased manner.

The corporation now intends to enter into joint venture with the private sector for the development and increase of agriculture and horticulture exports from the state. (KNN/ST)
