NKWEA to approach PM for making it easy for women entrepreneurs

New Delhi, May 21 (KNN) In the past few years, the country has seen an immense growth in the number of women becoming entrepreneurs and owning enterprises by breaking gender stereotypes.

However, members of the fairer sex are still in search of a right platform to display their talent and achieve heights in their chosen fields.

To make it possible, President of North Karnataka Women Entrepreneurs Association (NKWEA) Priya Puranik has decided to approach Prime Minster Narendra Modi with a slew of suggestions.

Talking to KNN India, Puranik, who is also a State Secretary of Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) Karnataka, apprised KNN of some suggestions from her letter, which she will be dashing off to the Prime Minister soon.

''Each taluka place should have common facility centres, that too exclusively for women, where women can exhibit their products, for training purpose and for conducting seminars,'' she said.

The State LUB secretary also highlighted the need of having products outlet for women entrepreneurs at public places such as Railway stations, Bus stands and Airports.

''These places can be proved as fantastic marketing platform for women entrepreneurs,'' Puranik avowed.

Puranik also discussed the trouble which women bears while approaching financial institution for loans to run their businesses and suggested that without any security, banks must give loans with some reasonable conditions.

''Banks and other financial institutions ask for guarantee or income certificate for lending loans. Being women and dependent on family, it's difficult for them to provide the sought documents by the banks,'' she avowed.

She also said that priority should be given for women entrepreneurs in government procurement adding that ''there should be some reservations for women owned industries.''

Puranik also informed that along with these issues, she will also urge PM Modi to provide industrial land at cheaper rate, which they (women) can easily afford.

Cluster development for the production of women entrepreneurs is much needed that too in rural area, she said.

In order to pave the way for products of rural women entrepreneurs' foreign market, Puranik suggested that government should give special training to women on import and Export trade.

''Interior rural women are really skilled but they should be need training in upscaling.  Art and crafts, Kasuti, Handicrafts, Wooden dolls—so many items are there, which are produced by these women. So, government should focus on rural women entrepreneurs.,'' she emphasised.
