Odisha Entrepreneurship Development Policy in the making

Bhubaneswar, Jul 12 (KNN) With a target of producing 10,000 entrepreneurs at the grassroots level during the current year, the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is now keen to put in place an Odisha Entrepreneurship Development Policy to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.
To this end, it has formed a high-level committee comprising of State MSME Secretary Panchanan Dash (Chair) with Additional Development Commissioner of the Union MSME Ministry and Director General of National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) to draft a comprehensive policy.
"The policy would strive to address all the issues right from awareness generation, promotion, skill development, networking and mentoring. It will try to sow the seeds of entrepreneurship in the minds of youth," said MSME Secretary Dash.
An enterprise goes through various stages in its development – prestart, stabilization and growth; therefore the policy will take into account those multiple stages.
Further, considering that entrepreneurship drives economic growth, productivity, innovation and employment, the MSME Department aims to create a movement which will include exercises to motivate youth, provide them with the required opportunities, skills and a facilitating environment.
According to reports, other than a huge mismatch in supply and demand of entrepreneurs in the state, there is no ease of doing business as the situation is rife with procedural hurdles, lack of start-up funds and mentoring support.
To offset this, the government has decided to lay additional emphasis on youth by forming an Entrepreneurship Development Agency under the State Youth Policy which will function under the MSME Department.
Also, it will motivate youth and impart training and management skills to effectively operate their businesses. (KNN)
