Odisha govt moves forward to get GI tag for ‘Odishara Rasagola’

New Delhi, Sept 8 (KNN) For getting Geographical Indication (GI) status to ‘Odishara Rasagola’, the Odisha government has submitted the required documents to the Chennai based GI registry.

This was said by Prafulla Samal, MSME Minister in a written reply to a question in the State Assembly.

He said that the government had applied seeking GI tag for ‘Odisha Rasagola’ with the Chennai-based Geographical Indication Registry and Intellectual Property India in the month of February this year.

He told the State Assembly that the Government has complied with a 14-point checklist as demanded by the Geographical Indication Registry, Chennai, including a documentary proof that substantiates the origin of ‘Odishara Rasagola’.

GI tag for ‘Odishara Rasagola’ was applied by the State-owned Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC) in the month of February.

The State-owned Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC) has applied for the GI tag for ‘Odishara Rasagola’ in February.

The Odish government decided to apply for GI tag for the state origin Rasagola after West Bengal was awarded the GI tag for its own variant ‘Banglara Rasagulla’ in November 2017.
