New Delhi, Mar 11 (KNN) Two public sector units (PSUs) Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC) have been asked to prepare and submit a techno-feasibility report for setting up 20 food mega-parks in the state, an official statement confirmed on Tuesday.

In a recently held meeting , the Chief Secretary G.C. Pati has asked the officials to identify 20 locations for setting up mega food parks in the state and the state PSUs to submit the report within one month. While IDCO will prepare techno-feasible report for 15 mega food parks, OSIC will undertake the task for five parks.

Principal Secretary of Agriculture, Rajesh Verma, who was present in the meeting, was directed to take up definite action plan for linking the farmers with the park and mobilising them to cultivate export quality paddy with buy-back arrangements. Besides, IDCO was advised to expedite the works relating to power connection to the project.

In a bid to provide impetus to the food processing industries, the state government is planning to set up mega food parks in different locations across Odisha under the Centre's Food Mega-Park Scheme. State PSUs -  IDCO, OSIC and Odisha Agro Industries Corporation Limited (OAIC)  have expressed interest in setting up food mega-parks in the state, confirmed an official of the state government.

While IDCO has proposed to set up its seafood mega-park at Deras in Khordha district, OAIC and OSIC are interested to develop their food park projects in Koraput and Jharsuguda districts respectively.

"The global processed food market is worth $100 billion, which is expected to double by 2020. Currently India’s share is only 1.6 per cent. Amongst developed economies, the state can target markets like the US, Singapore, Taiwan, and Korea that have the highest growth potential for processed food," Madhuparna Bhowmick, Joint Director and Head Agri-Business, Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), said.
