Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Facility Approved In Odisha With Enhanced Incentives
Bhubaneswar, Jan 23 (KNN) The Odisha state cabinet has approved a customised incentive package for RIR Power Electronics Limited to establish India's first silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility.
The project represents a significant investment of Rs 618.60 crore and will be located in the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster Park in Infovalley.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an increase in the incentive package from 30 to 50 percent, totaling Rs 110 crore to be paid in two phases.
The decision was made to prevent the company from seeking alternative locations in other states, thereby securing the project for Odisha.
RIR, currently India's sole manufacturer of silicon-based power devices, serves major clients including BHEL, ABB, and Indian Railways.
The semiconductor facility is expected to position Odisha as a leader in the semiconductor ecosystem, fostering industrial growth, developing local supply chains, and creating skill development opportunities.
The project will be India's first compound semiconductor laboratory, featuring advanced manufacturing processes such as epitaxial layer deposition and packaging.
Upon completion, the facility is projected to generate 750 jobs and significantly enhance domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
