Old currency notes to be accepted for land registration in UP till Nov 24: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Nov 16 (KNN) A measure which would bring some relief to the farmers in Uttar Pradesh, state chief minister Akhilesh Yada said old 500 and1000 Rupee notes will be accepted for land registration till November 24th.

This announcement was made on Tuesday after Yadav asked the Centre to at least keep farmers out of the currency scrapping move stating they needed the money to purchase fertilisers and seeds.

UP CM said, "I have said this repeatedly that at least the farmers should be given a discount as they have to purchase seeds, medicines, diesel etc. How much money would a farmer have? But the government is categorising the farmers as black money holders. If a person has Rs. 500 or Rs. 1,000 even they are in the category of black money holders."

Addressing media persons on Tuesday, he said, "If you are not getting the salaries in cheques then understand that you are going to lose your jobs... Just think how many people are going to lose their jobs. If you will lose your jobs, then tell me "kadwi chai kiski hai? Swaad kiska kharaab hua? "

Seeking relief from the Centre on Monday, Yadav had said that due to this sudden decision of the Government of India, farmers were facing difficulties for sowing in the Rabi crop season.

They were facing difficulties in arranging seeds and fertilisers. He said as a result of this decision, the farmers were also not able to utilise the earnings of the Kharif harvest and put it to their use.

In the ongoing marriage season, a large number of marriages are scheduled in these farmer families and to discharge their duties with regards to this, the farmers are faced with severe crisis due to the demonetisation decision, he had said. (KNN Bureau)
