Over 20K MSMEs in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu demand exhibition center

Thoothukudi, July 23 (KNN) Over 20,000 MSMEs in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu have highlighted loss of opportunities because of delay in setting up a trade and exhibition centre to showcase their produce.

Located in the southern part of the state the setting up of a trade centre for the region has been remaining on paper for the last seven years, as per TNIE.

Although five acres of land near the Fisheries College on Express Port Highways was allotted for the project there has been no development of the centre.

The industrial down is well connected with road, rail, air and water and is situated on the southern strip of the Coromandel Coast.

Business experts opine a trade centre-like platform between buyers and sellers could have better fostered the region's economic growth, as published in TNIE.

Thoothukudi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries (Thuditssia) President Nehru Prakash urged the State and district administrations to take steps to establish a trade centre in Thoothukudi.

“This will help the manufacturers meet buyers and ancillary business partners in a commonplace" he added.

Owing to the lack of the infrastructure industrialists have to organise expos, trade fairs and other programmes at private facilities spending lakhs of rupees every time.  (KNN Bureau)
