New Delhi, Apr 23 (KNN)  All drilling machinery operators and tube well operators in the national capital will have to register themselves with the Delhi Jal Board, triggering worries about harassment at the hands of inspectors.

“...in order to regulate and prevent unauthorized and illegal use of underground water in Delhi, no one shall carryout digging of borewells/tubewells without the permission of Delhi Jal Board/ NDMC,” Revenue Department, Government of Delhi said today in a notification.

“All drilling machine owners, contractors, and their operators are required to be mandatorily registered with the office of the district Deputy Commissioner (Revenue),” the notification added.

It also said that complaints can be made to the Delhi Jal Board Control Room against unauthorized users of ground water drilling machines and illegal boring water.

“Illegal/unauthorized use/extraction of ground water also attracts penal provisions under Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 i.e a fine of Rupees one Lakh or term of imprisonment that may extend upto 5 years or both,” the notification said.  (KNN/SD)
