Pending Madurai Industrial Corridor proposal should be implemented soon, submitted memorandum to Ministry: MADITSSIA

New Delhi, May 19 (KNN) The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the southern part of the country are in need of government support to implement the long-pending Madurai industrial Corridor project that was proposed in 2015, Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) President L. Murari said.

Talking to KNN, Murari explained that two years back a proposal came up to set up an industrial corridor in the region. Following which the Asian Development Bank (ADB) visited the district and carried out surveys as well. It has been two years since then, till now no work along that line has happened so far.

“The Industrial corridor is important as that will help facilitate an ecosystem wherein MSMEs can flourish. Not only will this help in productivity, it will also help bring down the rates of unemployment in the region,” he said.

He further spoke about the need to simplify the procedures in order to facilitate ease of doing business. The procedure for obtaining license for an MSME is very complicated, easing it up through a single window clearance is important.

Murari also spoke about the problems the Micro and Small units face in accessing the schemes of the government. Talking about Mudra he informed that under MUDRA Yojana, the banks are to provide a lending to MSMEs under three categories; Shishu for loans amounting up to 50,000 RS, Kishor for loans of 50 lakh to 5 lakh rupees and Tarun veering loans of amounts above 5 lakh rupees.

“The small and micro units are given just the Shishu loans which amount to 50,000 whereas the banks sanction Kishor and Tarun loans to the medium units, we have brought this before the MSME Ministry officials and are waiting for action”.

Murari also highlighted the need of large scale industries in the region as that helps MSME fetch business and orders.

Murari said that his association has met the Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently and submitted a memorandum highlighting the problems. The Industry body has also met the MSME ministry and submitted a copy of the memorandum.

Also K.K Jalan, MSME Secretary recently met the industry bodies in south and assured them that steps will be taken to ensure that govt. schemes reach the sector. (KNN/ DA)
