PHDCCI raises issues of J&K industries with Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Labour

Srinagar, Aug 24 (KNN) A delegation led by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) met Bhartruhari Mehtab, Chairperson Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on Labour.

Reportedly, the delegation discussed various issues regarding Labour, Textile & Skill Development sectors in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

The delegation apprised the Chairperson about the need for the information campaign to raise awareness of labour laws, EPF, ESI, EPF-pension scheme, social security measures, and welfare schemes of the Union Ministry of Textiles.

According to an official statement, the delegation also stressed on implementing centrally sponsored schemes among workers and employers to prevent infringements to enhance the effectiveness of workers in different sectors in J&K.

Among the other issues discussed with the Chairperson were implementation of Handloom Reservation Act to safeguard the interests of handloom weaver’s in UT of J&K, keeping in view the present economic downturn.

The delegation suggested that for carpet sector, government should provide revolving fund for the purchase of unsold carpet stock from weaver’s, manufacturers and exporters, providing full grant support in the shape of space rent of stall, boarding and lodging for participation in national and international exhibition/ buyer sellers meets upfront through CEPC, HEPC, Handicraft Export Promotion Council, PHDCCI International exhibitions and other export promotion councils of Ministry of Textiles GoI.

As per the statement, the members stressed for implementation of SFURTI Cluster Scheme for Socio-economic empowerment of carpet weaver’s in different Craft Concentrated areas, implementation of different schemes of Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of MSME GOI and other Ministries in letter and Spirit.

The chairperson gave a patient hearing to all the issues raised in the meeting and assured the PHDCCI delegation of his support for the socio-economic development of J&K.
