Hyderabad, Dec 10 (KNN) The power tariff for poultry industry in Andhra Pradesh has been reduced by 50 per cent to Rs 2.80 a unit.

The scheme has come into force from December-1 itself, after orders were issued in this regard by the Animal Husbandry Department of the state to give 50 per cent subsidy in collection of electricity charges from the Poultry industry.

The 50 per cent subsidy will be effective till March 31.  Thereafter, a scheme will be announced for the coming financial year as per electricity charges at that time.

The move comes in the backdrop of the State Poultry Farms Federation having requested the Chief Minister in January this year to notify the poultry farm as agricultural industry and provide subsidies.

With the increasing expenditure of poultry industry, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy ordered the Animal Husbandry department to examine the issue.

According to the Animal Husbandry Department, the sector employs almost 6 lakh people and the costs of running such farms have increased massively.

The Government had earlier removed cess on eggs and chicken.

According to the chief minister, the budget allocations for Animal Husbandry Department went up to Rs 1,000 crore from Rs 195 crore a few years ago.

He has asked the industry to reduce costs to increase incomes. (KNN/MS/SD)
