Proposal to revise power tariff-incentives submitted to TNERC, under consideration: TANSTIA

New Delhi, Aug 3 (KNN) In a bid to voice the concerns of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of Tamil Nadu with regard to the errant and high tariff power supply, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) have submitted a memorandum to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC).

Talking to KNN, C.K Mohan, General Secretary of TANSTIA explained about the latest development. He informed that there have been a lot of issues regarding the electricity for the MSMEs in the region.

The main problem for the micro and small unit clusters is that there is no quality power, because of which multiple times during a day the production and manufacturing process has to suffer.

Listing the problems further, Mohan added that the power tariff is also extremely high despite the input prices coming down.

“The price of coal has decreased, therefore the power must be cheap now, but the MSMEs continue to pay huge costs to avail power” he added.

Mohan further said that in most of the cases, a micro or a small enterprise is housed in a rented area, and doesn’t have control over the electric meters, because of which they are not able to monitor the actual electricity being consumed by the unit.

Mohan informed that his association along with other MSME bodies during the recent interaction with the board has submitted a proposal demanding the authorities to address these concerns.

Responding to the proposal, TNERC assured that a revised electricity policy would soon be introduced which would be in the best interest of the MSMEs, Mohan informed. (KNN/ DA)
