Puducherry GST collection sees record jump by 54%

Puducherry, Aug 4 (KNN) Puducherry has recorded a 54 per cent growth in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collection for July 2022, as compared to the same month in 2021.

As per the data shared by the Union Ministry of Finance (UFM) vis-a-vis State/UT-wise growth of GST revenues, union territory in the month of July crossed Rs 198 crore in its revenue collection registering Rs 69 core more than that of the previous year.

Puducherry is placed at the second position alongside Ladakh in the list of States and the Union Territories. Only Lakshadweep is ahead of with a recorded 69 per cent growth. Puducherry’s growth rate is higher than the National-level GST growth rate of 28 per cent for the month.

The 54 per cent growth in GST collection comes during a lean tourism period. The UT whose main source of income is tourism-dependent revenue has performed well In July this year. The maximum revenue collections for Puducherry is registered in the months of December and January.

Though most States and UTs have registered growth, only three States and UTs registered negative growth: Bihar with 1 per cent, Tripura at 3 per cent and Daman and Diu with 66 per cent.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir recorded static growth.  Among the bigger GST revenue grossing States, Karnataka registered 45 per cent  growth, West Bengal with 28 per cent , Haryana 27 per cent ,Telangana at 26 per cent, Andhra Pradesh at 25 per cent, Gujarat at 20 per cent, Uttar Pradesh 18 per cent , Maharashtra and Rajasthan at 17 per cent.  (KNN Bureau)
