Punjab govt announces Rs 10 crore grant for cotton farmers

Chandigarh, Sept 15 (KNN) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday announced grant of Rs 10 crore as compensation to cotton farmers whose crops were damaged due to attack from whitefly.

The decision was taken by Badal during a high level meeting with the delegation of Bharti Kissan Union (Sidhupur) led by its president Pishora Singh here at Punjab Bhawan.

He assured cotton growers that they would be duly compensated for the substantial loss incurred by them due to whitefly attack.

The chief minister also ordered the Revenue Department to complete the entire procedure of girdawari in adversely affected districts of the Malwa belt within the next 10 days.
The directed the department to cover other crops like guar and vegetables and ordered for the compensation to be paid directly to the cultivators in case the land was owned by someone else.

Badal also assured Union members that the government would take strict action against anyone found supplying spurious pesticides and insecticides to farmers. (KNN Bureau)
