Punjab govt decides to cancel allotment of vacant industrial plots

New Delhi, Oct 30 (KNN)  Intending  to put vacant industrial plots into use,  the Punjab government has decided to cancel the allotment of industrial plots which have not been put to use for a long time and those lands will be given to the ones who are interested in setting up industries, said Punjab's Commerce Minister Sundar Sham Arora.

He said "The allotment of industrial plots which have been lying vacant for a long time will be cancelled and the same will be given to those who are interested in setting up industrial units in the state."

He made the above remarks at an interactive session organised by the Mohali Industries Association (MIA).

There were vacant industrial plots that lay unused by allottees despite the expiry of the stipulated time period for setting up factories, he added. 

Speaking to KNN India, Past President of Mohali Industries Association, K.S. Mahal said “Those who have not set up industrial units within specified period of 5 years, in that case the government will give those industrial plots to them who are really interested in putting up industries in state for value addition.”

He said 5 years include 3 years of initial period and another 2 years as an extended period.

In those 5 years if the land has not been put to use, those land will be given to interested entrepreneurs of Punjab who need land for expansion, employment generation and industrial growth, he added.

Besides, Commerce Minister said that the new industrial policy which has been introduced in the state is best in the country and further claimed that it would push industrial growth in the state.

As many as 227 industrial units have restarted production after the new industrial policy was introduced,  Arora added. 

On the occasion, the minister also signed 25 Memorandums of Understandings (MoUs) for different projects worth Rs 591.66 crore.

D P S Kharbanda, Director of Industries & Commerce Punjab, said the state government  had identified 23 industrial clusters for development of Common Facility Centres in the state, out of which three clusters had been approved by the central government.
