Punjab govt to set up food processing unit near Jalandhar

Jalandhar, Aug 6 (KNN) The Punjab State Co-op Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd known as ‘Markfed’ seeks companies specialized in food processing, machinery for design, supply, and installation to set up a food processing unit of Markfed near Jalandhar.

The project will be implemented on the turnkey basis which means that after the project is constructed, it could be sold to any buyer as a completed product. 

The company should commission the project through process plant machinery in which they would be required to do pre-preparation lines for leafy and root vegetables for cleaning, washing, chopping, cutting, blanching and cooking the raw material in feed up to the capacity of 3-5 MT per hour, said the Managing Director, Markfed in an official notification.

Also, the company should have batch and continuous cooking process system; modern can filling line for pre-cooked ready to eat food products; and automatic and continuous filling line for retort pouches for pre-cooked ready to eat food products. 

The notification has also stated that the company should have sterilization resorts, based on state of art technology, for cans and retort pouches.  It would be required to do the cartoning, palletilizing and shrink wrapping machines for bulk handling for the finished products.

Markfed, being a state government procuring agency is engaged in the procurement of agricultural produce.

It procures wheat, paddy, cotton, oil-seeds like mustard, sunflower on behalf of Government of India through FCI / NAFED as part of Minimum Support Price (MSP) policy / Price Support Scheme.  The food-grains business comprises more than 85 per cent of the business turn-over of the Markfed.

Markfed contributes to research and development through the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab).   (KNN/SD)
