Ludhiana, Jul 2 (KNN) Congress Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu has appealed to the Centre to include Ludhiana in the plan of 100 developed cities of the country.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Urban Development Minister Venkaiya Naidu, Bittu said Ludhiana city has thousands of medium and small scale industries and is an industrial hub in northern India.

In July 2009, International Finance Corporation (IFC) had ranked Ludhiana as the easiest location to do business in India. The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry had also echoed similar views, he added.

Ludhiana industry has grown by leaps and bounds, although there still remain numerous shortcomings with respect to urban infrastructure, he said.

Ludhiana according to the World Bank report titled “Doing Business in India 2009” as the most adept place to carry out business transactions, does not have even proper urban infrastructure.

Without proper and requisite infrastructure development the dream of making the city an industrial hub will remain unfulfilled, he said. (KNN Bureau)
