Punjab MSMEs express concern over unscheduled power cuts; demand CM to intervene

Ludhiana, April 29 (KNN) The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Punjab have expressed major concerns regarding unscheduled power cuts and have appealed Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to intervene and resolve the issue.

Adding to industry’s woes, the unscheduled power units will further impact MSME units which are operating in loss owing to price hike in steel commodities, low market development and shortage of container.

Speaking exclusively with KNN India, Upkar Singh Ahuja, President, Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) said, “Approximately 60 per cent MSMEs are in loss and the industry is currently in panic due to unscheduled power cuts. We received a verbal communication to shut down industry above 2 MW due to increase in demand which is worrying how the next few months will be.”

Urging CM Mann to provide uninterrupted power supply to the industry, Ahuja said that the predicted shortage of power is a major concern for the industry as last year the industry had a very bad experience due to non-availability of power.

If the Punjab government is unable to resolve the issue MSME units will be compelled to shut down or move to other states where situation is better, said CICU chief. (KNN Bureau)
