Amritsar, Jan 3 (KNN)  In a move to promote tourism activities in the state, the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board wants to implement Son-et-Lumiere (sound and light) show at the historic Gobindgarh Fort here.

Son-et-Lumiere is a special lighting effect projected onto the façade of a building and synchronized with recorded or live narration and music to dramatize the history of the place.

The Son-et-Lumiere might be projected mainly on the walls of a historic structure known as General Dyer’s Bungalow or Colonial Bungalow and other surrounding structures within the fort.

In this context, the board has sought for agencies for conceptualisation, design, finance, construction, marketing, operation and maintenance of the proposed project.

The fort occupied a unique place in the Indian military history. Built in 1760, it was called Bhangian Da Kila (Bhangis was one of the twelve Sikh misles).

This fort holds a special significance in the freedom struggle. It has been a witness to many nameless freedom fighters who kissed the gallows willingly. Gen O Dyer's office-cum-residence was located just opposite the Phansi Ghar. It is said that he got sadistic pleasure watching the hanging of the patriots in the Phansi Ghar.

Some of the freedom fighters had sought the permission of the government to build a suitable memorial at the Phansi Ghar, which had stood out as a place of resistance against the atrocities of the British military general, General O Dyer, the perpetrator of the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh in 1919.

Amritsar is one of the largest cities of Punjab. The main commercial activities in this region include tourism, carpets and fabrics, farm produce, handicrafts, service trades, and light engineering. The city is known for its rich cuisine and culture.

Some of the famous tourist destinations of Amritsar are Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Akal Takht Sahib etc. (KNN/ST)
