Chandigarh, Apr 28 (KNN) To exploit the abundant solar energy resource in the state, Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has proposed to set up canal top solar power projects in the state, an initiative of projects for sale of power to the state utility (PSPCL).

It will soon be setting up rooftop and ground based power plants of capacity 5 kw, 10 kw, 20 kw, 50 kw, 100 kw, 200 kw and 500 kw in different regions of the state.

“The proposed project is an attempt to supplement energy generation through renewable energy distributed generation which has been well identified and accepted,” it said.

In this regard, PEDA is seeking partnership from project developers to participate in the selection process for setting up of grid connected solar pv power plants on canal tops.
Punjab has considerable sun shine available for more than around 300 days in a year with good insolation levels.

Extensive irrigation canal network available in the state have potential of about 1000 MW SPV installations.

PEDA is an agency for propagating the objectives of new and renewable sources of energy in Punjab including solar, mini hydro and biomass based power projects. It has undertaken various programmes for the promotion and popularisation of these sources. (KNN/ST)
