Punjab tourism board to promote Amritsar heritage sites

Chandigarh, Feb 26 (KNN) The Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB) is planning to bring sustainable systems for the protection and conservation of the state natural heritage sites by improving tourism infrastructure in Amritsar.

The Sikh heritage route cluster destination, located in the western part of the state, has been proposed for inclusion as part of the first preliminary field reconnaissance (PFR). This cluster is focused on Amritsar and Gurdaspur, with Amritsar as the main gateway and key attraction, according to an official notice.

PHTPB wants to improve basic urban infrastructure including water supply, sanitation, road and public transport, solid waste management, and environmental improvement and incidental services such as public toilets, street signage and lighting at existing and emerging tourist destinations and gateways.

The board will soon be appointing consultants for design and supervision for Amritsar Trance 2 project which is a part of Infrastructure Development Investment Program for Tourism (IDIPT) under Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The project is expected to enhance protection and management of key natural and cultural heritage tourism sites, improved market connectivity, enhanced destination and site environment and tourist support infrastructure, and enhanced capacities for sustainable destination and site development with extensive participation by the private sector and local communities.

The scope of work included techniques for interpretation, implementation strategy, operation and maintenance plan, guidelines and templates for site interpretation material including signage, printed material for the natural landscape sites.

Towards this, the board is inviting bids from consultancy agencies to be service provider of the proposed project.   (KNN/ST)
