DGFT Officials Meet With Trade Association In Ludhiana To Address Export Concerns

Ludhiana, Aug 6 (KNN) The Association of Trade and Industrial Undertakings (ATIU) recently hosted an interactive session with senior officials from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to discuss the government's export policies and address industry concerns.

ATIU President Pankaj Sharma presented several export-related issues to Utpal Acharya, Joint DGFT, and Sandeep Rajoriya, Assistant DGFT. The officials listened to the concerns and proposed potential solutions.

During the meeting, Sharma emphasised the importance of encouraging young entrepreneurs to engage in export activities to boost the country's economic growth.

In response, Acharya announced plans for short-term courses led by DGFT staff to educate aspiring exporters on establishing export units, navigating foreign policy, and identifying product export potential.

ATIU members highlighted several challenges facing the export industry. They stressed the need for government intervention to close the payment gap and address the shortage of containers at ports, which has led to inventory build-up.

The association also raised concerns about delays in the release of customs drawbacks, which have placed financial strain on MSMEs due to delayed dispatches and increased interest costs.

Logistical challenges for Punjab-based exporters due to their distance from major ports were also discussed.

To address this issue, the association proposed that the government consider providing a goods subsidy to exporters in Punjab to mitigate the impact of delayed shipments to Mumbai.

The meeting provided a platform for dialogue between industry representatives and government officials, aiming to address obstacles and promote growth in the export sector.

Both sides expressed a commitment to working together to overcome the challenges and boost India's export performance.
