Rajasthan govt launches Bhamashah scheme for women

Jaipur, Aug 18 (KNN) Empowering the female heads of the families, Rajasthan Chief minister Vasundhara Raje has launched Bhamashah scheme from Udaipur, under which women will be benefitted by economic and social welfare schemes, which will be given to them through direct cash transfers.

The Bhamashah scheme, launched on August 15, is a card that comes with a bank account number registered in the name of the female head of the family.

Bank accounts for 1.5 crore women in the state will be opened and Rs 2000 will be deposited by the state government in the accounts. The state government has set aside Rs 600 crore for the scheme, reports media.

Addressing a gathering at the launch of the scheme, Raje said that since decades the country is following patriarchal system and launching of this scheme will bring landmark revolution in the state and Rajasthan will now move forward using women power.

A centralized helpline with toll free number (1800-180-6127) has also been set up.

Raje said Bhamashah Scheme was announced in February 2008 during her last regime. Under the scheme, 45.78 lakh women were enrolled, 29.07 lakh bank accounts were opened and 8000 cards were issued. (KNN/SD)
