Bengaluru, Sept 14 (KNN) Centralized Processing Center (CPC) becomes the first organization in India and the world to receive an ISO 15489-1:2000 certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI).

CPC is the flagship project of Income Tax Department with M/s Infosys Limited as the Managed Service Provider.

“CPC became the first organization in India and the world to receive the certification. The ISO15489:2001 is a “Record Management Standard” governing the practice of maintaining records of an organization from the time they are created up to their eventual disposal. This includes registering, classifying, storing, securing, retrieval and disposition of records,” said an official statement.

CPC was set-up in 2009 by the Income Tax Department to process electronic returns in a centralized facility.

Till July 2013, CPC has processed over 4.4 crore IT returns and stored and archived over 4.7 crore physical documents in a modern record management facility. The large volumes of paper records handled by the CPC, in the form of ITR V necessitated a scientific record management system compliant with international best practices.

Chief Executive of BSI, Howard Kerr handed over the certificate to DGIT (Systems) from the Income Tax Department, Dileep Shivpuri.

The function was organised earlier this month at CPC here in the presence of Chief Commissioners of Income Tax, K Satyanarayana and S K Sahai, , and, Director General Of Income Tax (Investigation), S Ravi. (KNN)
