It is a project of the Directorate of Technical Education Jammu & Kashmir, implementing Craftsmen Training scheme sponsored by Director General Employment & Training (DGE&T) New Delhi.
The craftsmen scheme was introduced by government of India in 1950 and later transferred to the state of Jammu & Kashmir in 1958.
The institute is committed to the cause of developing a skill base among the youth to enable them to earn a respectable livelihood to help to create an economically viable society. It has tried to bridge the gap between the skill requirements of the market by laying emphasis on better training facilities.
