Registration process under Contract Labour Regulation Act of Tamil Nadu speeded up by 30 days

Chennai, Jan 10 (KNN) The Tamil Nadu Labour Department has speeded up the registration process of Contract Labour Regulation Act (CLRA) by 30 days.

Every 'Principal Employer' (PE) who employs twenty or more ‘workmen’ on any day of the preceding twelve months should mandatorily apply for CLRA registration to the Labour Department of their respective states, stating the maximum number of employees to be employed.

Earlier this registration process would take 60 days, whereas the Labour Department has notified to speed-up the process to 30 days.

The Tamil Nadu Labour Department recently notified stating that the ‘Registering Officer’ shall grant ‘Certificate of Registration’ within 30 days (earlier 60 days) from the ‘Date of Receipt’ of application.

“The registering officer shall grant certificate of registration under sub-section (2) of the section 7 in Form II, within thirty days from the date of receipt of such application referred to in sub-rule (1) of rule 17,” the Labour Department notification said.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Labour had sent proposal to make amendment in the Tamil Nadu Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Rules, 1975, to fix time limit for grant of registration certificate within 30 days and reducing the time limit for issue of license from 60 days to 30 days.

The Commissioner of Labour had stated that no objections or suggestions were received and thus the government issued the notification in this regard. (KNN Bureau)
