Restriction on loading and unloading of goods in Delhi may hit traders: CAIT

New Delhi, Dec 7 (KNN) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has raised concern that if loading and unloading of material in Delhi markets in day time stops, it may pose serious threat to business activities in Delhi to a great extent.

In this regard, CAIT is convening a meeting of Delhi Trade Associations to decide future course of action.

Meanwhile, the CAIT is dispatching memorandum to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal urging their immediate intervention in this matter.

The Administration has ordered stoppage of loading and unloading of goods during day time in Karol Bagh and other markets which has irked the traders.

The matter is being heard by the Delhi High Court.

In the hearing, the High Court has directed Delhi Police to file a report of enforcing this restriction to 13 other markets of Delhi.

These 13 markets include Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazar, Kamla Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Sarojini Nagar, Green Park, Lajpat Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Mahipalpur, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar and Sector 10 Dwaraka market.

National Secretary General of CAIT, Praveen Khandelwal and General Secretary of Delhi State, Dev Raj Baweja said that loading and unloading of goods is an integral part of business activities and if restrictions are imposed, the trade of Delhi will come to a halt.

If loading and unloading of goods is permitted after 8 pm in the night, it will pose a greater security threat to traders and will distort the law and order in Delhi, they said.

They said that it will be impossible to conduct smooth business activities in Delhi and such a situation will highly damage the centuries old distributive character of Delhi trade.

Both Khandelwal and Baweja has suggested that at loading and unloading of goods should be allowed at least from 12 noon to 4pm during day time to ease transportation of goods in Delhi.

The CAIT is also contemplating to intervene in the said Case being heard by the High Court.
