Guwahati, May 1 (KNN) Agricultural export body is seeking the services of experts to suggest ways for effective use of export fund meant for north-east including proposing ways for efficient use of the unspent funds.

“The reasons for the states or nodal Agency having unspent Export Development Funds-North East Region (EDF-NER) should be critically examined and remedial measures suggested,” said Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority.

“It may also be examined if the present system of release of funds by the nodal agency to the project authorities phasing of releases, standard checklist, is adequately streamlined,” it added.

APEDA has invited the bids from experts to look into the matter.  The hired agency will suggest new initiatives, more suited to the nature of intervention under the scheme, specifically in the states experiencing critical bottlenecks in infrastructure.

It will look at ways to improve the outcome considering the expenditure incurred and its result.

The major exports from north-east are horticulture items and tea.

Apart from this, the north-east has huge potential for export of citrus (orange), banana, pineapple, papaya, jackfruit, ginger, turmeric, chilli and potato.  (KNN)
