Nashik, Aug 18 (KNN) A textile cluster project at Malegaon co-operative industrial estate with a total project cost of Rs 15.84 crore will start its operations on a trial basis from August 26, 2014, according to a media report.

The project Baliram Hiray Hi-tech Textile Cluster Services Pvt Ltd which was set up under the scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is almost complete, the report said.

“We are in the process of electrification, which will be completed in the next three-four days. We will start trial operations from August 26. Commercial operations will begin within a week thereafter,” the report said quoting director of the textile cluster project Prakash Kankaria.

The textile cluster which is spread over two acres with a built-up area of 39,276 sq ft received an 80 per cent grant (Rs 12 crore) from the central government, 10 per cent (Rs 1.5 crore) from the state government and the other 10 (Rs 2.34) from stakeholders.

Malegaon has about two lakhs powerloom units but the units are operated traditionally and have to be modernised. They do not have adequate amenities for pre-weaving and post-weaving treatments.

“The powerloom industry of Malegaon, which is 130 years old, has not yet been modernised. But the advanced technologies at the common facility centre would help boost the powerloom units in the town,” it said, quoting Kankaria as saying. (KNN Bureau)
