Shops, restaurant employees to come under insurance cover in UP

Lucknow, Jun 18 (KNN) The UP government has extended the employee state insurance (ESIC) scheme to several new sectors such as shops, hotels, restaurants, cinema, newspaper offices, transport employing more than 10 people.

 “The state government has extended provisions of Employees State Insurance Act 1948, which will provide insurance cover to classes of establishment in which ten or more persons are employed  or were employed on any day of the preceding twelve months,” said the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

It would also apply to employees of cinemas, educational institutions, medical institutions including corporate joint sector, trust, charitable and private ownership hospitals.

The regional office in Kanpur alongwith sub-regional offices in Noida, Varanasi and Lucknow will oversee the allotment of codes for ensuring implementation of the project.
According to a notification by Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) the new entities being brought under the scheme should approach the regional office of ESIC at Kanpur or sub-regional offices at Noida, Varanasi and Lucknow to get the code number allotted for the implementation of plan.

ESIC provides full medical care for self and dependents, that is admissible from day  one of insurable employment, the insured persons are also entitled to a variety  of case benefits in times of physical distress due to sickness, temporary or  permanent disablement resulting in loss of earning capacity.

ESIC has introduced identity cards with family photographs of insured persons for smooth administration of medical benefits in the E.S.I. dispensaries and hospitals.

To compensate the erosion in monetary value of permanent disablement benefit and dependant’s benefit, periodical enhancement is granted in terms of percentage of original daily rate. (KNN)
