Silk Park at Ranchi to help Jharkhand handicraft

Ranchi, Jul 17 (KNN) A Silk Park will come up in Ranchi at a cost of Rs 18.74 crore to be promoted by the Jharkhand Silk Textile and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd.

It will have facilities like loom centres, dyeing halls, laboratories, design centres, dispensary, exhibition hall, retail sales division and godowns. A weavers' training centre will also be there to impart training for better end results.

The proposed park will use best of modern technology to provide basic infrastructure like dye processing unit; cocoon bank; drying, processing, reeling and spinning units; yarn dyeing and bleaching facilities; as well as fabric weaving units.

With the construction of the silk park, thousands of weavers will directly and indirectly benefit.

The silk park is being set up with a view to boosting silk exports. It would be the first such park in Jharkhand. While 80 per cent of the costs will be provided by the Centre, the remaining 20 per cent will be borne by the state government.

Jharkhand Silk, Textile and Handloom Development Corporation, popularly known as Jharcraft, will be the nodal agency to develop the Ranchi silk park. Silk parks are also being planned in Giridih and Jasidih.

Jharkhand is India’s largest producer of tropical tussar silk, contribution almost 65 per cent of the country’s produce. (KNN/SD)
