Wokha, Sept 9 (KNN) A 45-day long skill up gradation on handloom weaving under the Samarth Scheme is underway in Wokha, Nagaland.

The skill programme which began on September 8 was inaugurated by SDO (C), Tsidi at Blue Hill Colony. The function was chaired by skill development officer, Wokha MGN Fellow, Anuranjan Singh.

While addressing the event, Tsidi, lauded the Ministry of Textiles for organizing such programmes to upgrade skills in the field of handloom weaving .He also stressed on the need to keep up with the modern machinery techniques along with the traditional method.

Assistant Director (Weaving) Weavers Service Centre, Dimapur, Naresh Jambhulkar said the Institute implements a cluster development model to stimulate dormant clusters by intervening in the areas of production, technology, marketing, and skill development to enhance productivity, competitiveness with collective efforts and initiatives of individuals units.

Speaking about the importance of such programmes, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Thungbeni Ngullie, said “Programmes like these allow women to become economically independent thus helping them become self-reliant.”
