Skill training programme for unemployed rural youth

Chennai, Jan 24 (KNN)  Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation and Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) Chennai have started a three-month free skill training programme for unemployed rural youth, according to a report by The Hindu.

Addressing the inauguration of the programme on Friday in Tiruchirappalli, Principal of  Seshasayee Institute of Technology, S Sangappillai said that there are hundreds of engineering colleges and polytechnic colleges but only a very few Industrial Training Institutes to impart skills.

There is a big demand for skilled manpower in the country and the requirement may be 20 lakhs or even more by 2020. The government has started the training programme to meet this demand, he said.

On the other hand, Managing Director, RK Metal and Vice-President, Tiruchi District Small Scale Industries Association, N Kanagasababathi said skilled persons who acquire air conditioning and refrigeration skills can establish their own shops instead of searching for jobs.

The programme provides the candidates training courses in welding, fabrication, electrical wiring and repair of domestic appliances. The current batch of 20 will cover training in CNC operation and air conditioning mechanism. (KNN Bureau)
