Spinning Mills in Maharashtra ask for extension of power rebates

Pune, 17 Nov (KNN) The Maharashtra State Cooperative Textile Federation (MSCTF) has urged state textile commissioner for the further extension of power rebate.

According to media reports, the rebate given by the state government of Maharashtra to spinning mills on purchase of power expires by the end of December this year.

The spinning mills were granted a three-year subsidy of INR 3 per unit until 31st December, 2021.

It is expected that the mills will establish solar power plants at their property in these three years while the avail the subsidy.

Ashok Swami, Chairman of MSCTF expressing the issues faced by the industry he said, “Purchasing cotton is a major difficulty being faced by the mills due to their prices rising from INR 38,000 per candy to 68,000 per candy, hence the surge in electricity rate would make the situation worse.”

He pointed out one of the reasons that the mills were unable to set up solar plants, as 1-megawatt capacity permission was granted which would generate electricity for just two hours.

Swami has pressed for relaxation of these rules and authorize for 10 –megawatts to 12-megawatts power plants.

In view of the increasing prices of cotton, Ramchnadra Marathe, Managing Director of the federation said the mills have reached out to the Centre to control the cotton prices.
