Tamil Nadu MSMEs appeal state government to take up raw material prices issue with centre

Chennai, April 9 (KNN) The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) associations in Tamil Nadu have urged the state government to take up the issue of rising raw material prices with the central government.

In a meeting with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday the MSME associations requested him to up the issue with union government and provide measures to control raw material prices.

The southern state has one of the largest number of MSMEs which have been drastically hit due to the hike in raw material prices.

If the prices aren’t controlled soon these units will not be able to survive, warned the MSME associations.

J. James, president of Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises said that the ministers and seniors present at the meeting has assured us to take up the matter with the central government.

The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association has suggested the State government to form a committee to study the raw material problem faced by the MSMEs and accordingly take the required steps.

The heads of the association explained the problems faced by the MSMEs to the Chief Minister and later had detailed discussions with Ministers Thangam Thennarasu and V. Senthil Balaji.

MSMES highlighted problems such as hike in property tax, the levy of interest on GST penalty.

They also emphasised on the need for an industrial estate in Coimbatore for micro units, and some of the infrastructure bottlenecks. (KNN Bureau)
