Chennai, Jul 28 (KNN) Tamil Nadu is rapidly emerging as a leading electronics manufacturing hub in India, especially for Apple’s supply chain.
Major Apple suppliers such as Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics are expanding their operations in the state.
Foxconn is currently operating from Sriperumbudur and plans to invest around Rs 3,300 crore to boost its manufacturing capacity.
Pegatron, another Apple supplier, has also set up a large facility nearby and is planning further expansion.
Tata Electronics, which entered the iPhone assembly business by acquiring Wistron’s Karnataka plant, is investing in new facilities in Hosur and may soon start iPhone assembly in Tamil Nadu as well.
This surge in interest from Apple’s suppliers has created a positive ripple effect in the state’s electronics ecosystem. Several component manufacturers, including Taiwan-based firms like Wistron and Sunwoda, are exploring opportunities to set up operations in Tamil Nadu. The move aligns with Apple’s strategy to diversify its manufacturing base beyond China and expand in India.
The Tamil Nadu government has been proactive in attracting investments, offering incentives and ensuring a business-friendly environment. As a result, the state is becoming a preferred location for electronics and component manufacturing.
Industry experts believe this trend will create thousands of jobs, enhance local supply chains, and make Tamil Nadu a key contributor to India’s electronics export growth.
Tamil Nadu already contributes to over 20 per cent of India’s electronics exports, and with this momentum, it is expected to play an even larger role in the global supply chain.
With sustained policy support and rising global demand, Tamil Nadu is on track to become a major electronics and component manufacturing hub not just for India, but for the world.
