Madurai, Apr 11 (KNN) The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) has welcomed the Tamil Nadu government’s new self-certification policy for building plan approvals, aimed at cottage industries and green-category industrial buildings.
In a statement, MADITSSIA president T. Kodeeswaran called the initiative a major step forward for small entrepreneurs, especially in the Madurai region.
The policy allows for instant approvals of factory buildings up to 2,690 sq. ft. (500 sq. metres), fulfilling a long-pending demand from the association.
“This move will greatly benefit micro and small enterprises operating in both urban and rural areas,” said Kodeeswaran. He noted that faster approvals would help businesses save time and resources, accelerating growth and development in the sector.
MADITSSIA also praised the state’s decision to reduce the minimum access road width requirement for industrial buildings in village panchayat areas — from 7 metres to 6 metres.
According to the association, this adjustment will make it easier for small businesses to expand their operations, especially in rural pockets where road infrastructure is limited.
Looking ahead, MADITSSIA plans to request the government to extend the self-certification scheme to existing cottage industries as well. The association believes this would further streamline processes and encourage more entrepreneurs to venture into eco-friendly, green-category industries.
Overall, the new policy is expected to simplify compliance, lower entry barriers, and promote industrial growth in Tamil Nadu’s small-scale sector.
