Molasses manufacturing units in Namakkal urge TN govt to resolve licensing issue

Namakkal, Apr 26 (KNN) The molasses manufacturing units in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu are urging the state government to renew their licenses which expired on March 31, 2023, reported TOI.

As per reports, state excise department in the district had refused to renew the license of molasses production units after March 31, 2023, without any reason.

One of the owners of a baking and candy making unit told TOI on anonymity that the state excise department has to renew the license for molasses manufacturing units every financial year.

“The license is valid only for a year and we have to renew it every year despite being in the industry for several decades,” he said, adding that even transporting molasses within the district is considered illegal without the license.

The state excise department has not been responding to the renewal requests and queries for the last 25 days, reported TOI quoting a source.

“Some have managed to produce feed with the available stock of molasses, while few other industries and units have already stopped production as their molasses stocks were exhausted,” he added.

Assistant commissioner of the excise department M Selvi told TOI that the pending files will be cleared at the earliest.  (KNN Bureau)
