Telangana handloom expo underway in Hyderabad till Aug 17
Hyderabad, Aug 8 (KNN) A 10-day national-level handloom exhibition organised by the Telangana government is underway in Hyderabad till August 17.
Speaking the opening ceremony, Handlooms and Textiles Minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday said the Telangana handloom industry occupies a unique place in the country with the special creations of its handloom weavers..
“The main objective of National Handloom Day is to recognise the importance of handloom products, patronise, promote and ensure that the weavers are paid decent wages, “he added.
The handloom expo has been organised to provide handloom artisans with a platform to display their products and build market linkages. The handloom associations from Telangana and other states have set up their stalls at the expo.
To encourage more and more weavers from the state, the State government had instituted awards in the name of Konda Laxman Bapuji in 2018.
The Telangana government has now decided to increase the cash prize from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 to help them develop. Around 28 handloom weavers from across the state will be felicitated with the cash prize. (KNN Bureau)
