Tele-Law Workshop Highlights Role Of Technology In Expanding Access To Justice
Chandigarh, Mar 23 (KNN) A regional workshop on the Tele-Law programme under the DISHA (Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice) scheme concluded at Kurukshetra University, Haryana, with a focus on strengthening access to justice through technology-driven initiatives.
Addressing the participants at the workshop, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasised the need to leverage digital platforms to make legal services more affordable, accessible and citizen-centric, particularly at the grassroots level.
He highlighted that initiatives such as Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu are playing a crucial role in expanding legal awareness and delivering timely legal advice across the country.
Focus on Technology driven access to Justice
The workshop brought together members of the judiciary, government officials, legal professionals, representatives of Common Service Centres (CSCs), academia and civil society to deliberate on improving last-mile justice delivery and strengthening stakeholder coordination.
Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini, who attended the event, underscored the importance of ensuring that justice reaches every citizen, stating that development is meaningful only when its benefits extend to the last mile.
He also flagged off a DISHA Awareness Van aimed at enhancing outreach and public engagement under the scheme.
Tele-Law Expansion and Stakeholder Collaboration
Officials highlighted that the Tele-Law programme has significantly expanded in Haryana, with services now being delivered through over 6,000 CSCs across all districts.
The initiative, supported by a mobile application and toll-free helpline, aims to provide pre-litigation legal advice in an accessible and cost-effective manner.
During the event, discussions also focused on promoting pro bono legal services under the Nyaya Bandhu programme, with emphasis on increasing participation of lawyers and strengthening legal literacy, particularly in underserved regions.
The workshop served as a platform for experience-sharing and policy dialogue, with stakeholders emphasising the need for improved coordination, technology adoption and capacity building to further enhance access to justice.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing inclusive, transparent and technology-enabled justice delivery in line with the broader vision of ensuring ‘justice for all.’
