Tiruppur Exporters urge CM Stalin to halt power tariff hike

Tiruppur, Sept 14 (KNN) Tiruppur Exporter's Association (TEA) has requested Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to revisit the Power Tariff Hike and reduce the hike to save Tirupur’s Knitwear Industry.

The Association in a letter to the CM has stressed on the impact upward revision of power tariff will have on the industry majorly consisting on MSMEs.

“It will be a heavy blow to the Industry, which added fuel to the burning situation existing now,” said TEA in a statement.

Raja M Shanmugham, President, TEA particularly mentioned that the Tirupur Knitwear Sector has been already reeling under pressure due to internal and external factors and with this, the Addition of Power Tariff hike would be a heavy blow on the sector comprising MSMEs and their survival will also at stake including employment.

Exporters have apprehended that the combined negative factors may lead to trigger for survival of units, particularly Micro and Small units and also loss of employment to Workers with these factories.

These units with less competitiveness are neither in a position to absorb Power Tariff Hike nor pass on to the Foreign Buyers.

“Tirupur Cluster is consisting of job working units, which are actually backbone for the Garment manufacturing units and the success of Tirupur is also attributed to them and these job working units are mainly in Micro and Small category and the power tariff hike from the existing level is really a blow to them and they could not pay and sustain in the business,” said TEA.

A similar representation has also been made to Thiru V. Senthilbalaji, Minister for Electricity, Prohibition & Excise and Dr. V. Irai Anbu, IAS, Chief Secretary.  (KNN Bureau)
