TN Assembly Speaker proposes committee formation for revival of industries

Chennai, June 11 (KNN) Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu has requested Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to appoint a committee to study and analyse the problems faced by industries and suggest steps for their revival.

He pointed out the condition of industries and how in the last 10 years industries remained closed in the state due to policies of the previous State government and the Centre.

In a memorandum submitted to Stalin recently, he said over 20 lakh skilled and unskilled workers had lost their employment, as per media reports.

The matchbox and the firecracker industries of Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar districts are facing uncertain future due to the unprecedented raw material price rise and unrealistic conditions laid down by the Union Government.

They give employment to over 10 lakh persons to fulfil 95 per cent of matches and the firecrackers requirements of the entire country.

One of the important industry such as textiles is also drastically hit due to cotton prices that had been artificially jacked up through hoarding.

The cashew industries of Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kanniyakumari districts are at the brink of collapse after the export and import subsidies were withdrawn by the Union Government.  (KNN Bureau)
