TN govt to buy crayons, colour pencils, sweaters worth Rs 11 crore

Chennai, Apr 30 (KNN) The Government of Tamil Nadu is planning to buy 12,67,717 lakh crayons for students of class one and two, 22,32,283 lakh colour pencils for children of standard three-five and woollen sweaters for 1,03,074 lakh children who are enrolled in elementary education.

The order was announced today by the Director of Elementary Education, throwing up a business opportunity of Rs 11,12,29,600 crore for small entrepreneurs who manufacture crayons, colour pencils and woollen sweaters.

Earlier, the state government had announced its intention to purchase school shoes and school bags to supply to students.

Further, with the start of the academic session 2013-14, textbooks published by the department of school education, Government of Tamil Nadu have been uploaded on the website along with a list of publishers.

Meanwhile, entrepreneurs who deal in manufacture of crayons, colour pencils and woollen sweaters can purchase or download the tender document from the website of the Director of Elementary Education until May 30, 2013. 

The move is aimed at increasing the enrolment of students and the standard of kindergarten education, which can have a major impact on the future generation.

Currently, in order to enrol additional students many states supply mid-day meals for students from class one-ten, free slates for students of class one, free bus pass for all students coming to school, text books, uniforms and stationary.  (KNN)
