Trade Unions press for revival of closed NTC mills in Tamil Nadu
Coimbatore, May 28 (KNN) About seven National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills in Tamil Nadu have stopped production for 2 years now, said the trade union leaders during a meeting with the Tamil Nadu Minister for Handlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi.
They urged the minister to take up the issue of National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills with the Union government.
A MoU has been submitted by trade union leaders to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently.
“The NTC had nearly Rs 2,000 crore with it and its lands in Tamil Nadu were worth Rs 6,000 crore. So, there was potential for the NTC management to modernise the mills and run them,” the leaders said.
Demanding reopening of the mills as protests by Save NTC movement would be held in nine States on the same day and have called for a fast in Coimbatore, Kamudhakudi (Ramanathapuram district) and Kalaiyarkoil (Sivaganga district) on June 14. (KNN Bureau)
