Traders, MSMEs in Jammu to state protest today against non-implementation of GST in state

Jammu, July 4 (KNN) The traders and MSMEs in Jammu are holding demonstration today to protest against non-implementation of GST only in their state across the entire country.

Bari Brahmana Industries Association and Traders Federation Ware House-Nehru Market will hold two separate protest demonstrations in Jammu demanding immediate passage of GST Bill in Jammu & Kashmir.

As the GST has been rolled out across the country, J&K staying out from the ‘One Nation, One Tax’ theme raises the possibility of double taxation of inter-state transaction of goods going to the state since two levies — the Integrated GST (IGST) and State GST (SGST) of the originating state — will be imposed on all supplies to J&K, alongside local levies such as value added tax (VAT) and sales tax.

J&K finance minister Haseeb Drabu had on Saturday stated in New Delhi that the state is likely to clear the legislation on the indirect tax regime by 6 July.

Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday said that protests sometimes are politically motivated, but it is good for the country, otherwise people of Jammu and Kashmir will suffer.

He said the state would roll out GST in the next few days.
