Traffic Police urges use of Helpline number-Social Media if cops ask for any GST-Fee

New Delhi, July 14 (KNN) With the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rolled out from July 1, few traders have raised complaints over the traffic police officers taking advantage of the confusions with regard to the GST and charging GST fee from truckers while passing in and through Delhi.

Following the increasing number of reports, a delegation of traders along with Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) raised the concern with the Special Commissioner for traffic.

Responding to the complaints, the Police Department has assured that the department will soon send an advisory to all traffic police circles in Delhi with special instructions. These instructions would include restricting cops from engaging in any sort of document verification work with regard to the GST.

The Department further appealed that in case any police officer asks for money citing GST, the trucker should not pay; instead the matter should be brought into notice of the Delhi police using the helpline or via social media channels including twitter and Facebook.

Earlier, there have been reports of five police officers including an assistant sub-inspector, head constable and three constables being suspended after complaints corruption along the line.

Also DCPs of the different circles in Delhi have been asked to go out on surprise checks in order to ensure that such incidents don’t take place. (KNN/ DA)
