The council of ministers, at a meeting on Tuesday, gave nod for a proposal to feed Labour Market Information System (LMIS) which will provide institutional capacity to train 300 million skilled people by 2022.
Industries and commerce minister Tapan Chakraborty said Tripura is a pioneer in skill development mission in the country.
"As many as nine departments will set up separate wings to deal with skill development under the new directorate," added Chakraborty.
Tripura has 13 ITIs having an intake capacity of 5,490 per year. But it provides vocational education to only 3.9 per cent people, which is 6.8 per cent at the national level, he said.
Chakraborty added that the new directorate will start functioning from August 1. Broadly, the skill development program will include at least 33 per cent female aspirants. (KNN Bureau)
