Union budget: North East MSMEs raise their hope for infrastructural development

New Delhi, Jan 31 (KNN) The majority of the enterprises in the North East region are MSMEs and are expecting the union budget to focus on MSMEs and give a substantial push towards infrastructural development as it would cater to the overall progress of the region, said Abhijit Barooah, CII Chairman – Northeast.

There was nothing really there for Assam in the previous year budget but the government must understand that MSMEs are crucial for the accelerating the aim it sets for this regions, Barooah pointed out.

Tea being a key driver of economic activity in North East, Bidyananda Barkakoty, Adviser at North Eastern Tea Association has urged the government to announce a scheme particularly on drip irrigation for the tea industry.

With regards to priority, the Ministry of MSME has stated North East to be its top most priority which gives expectations to the local MSMEs for higher allocations and importance.

In comparison with the other parts of India the regional economy of North east remains marginal, therefore leveraging MSMEs is a move towards growth.
