They suggested that perhaps larger capacity generators can be first replaced by gas ones so that change in a phased manner becomes implementable.

“We also requested him that pressure be brought on state Govt to ensure 24x7 power supply as also to regulate operation of gas supply company,” said the industrialists.

During the meeting, difficulties that would be faced particularly by industry due to the ban on use of DG set were brought out very emphatically.

The delegation spelled out that small industry is not in any position to change to PNG Gen Set or even dual fuel due to high cost as also difficulties caused by monopolistic policies of PNG companies.

They pressed on the need to ensure 24x7 interruption free power supply and privatization of distribution is indispensable and can be the only way forward for strict management of Air Pollution.

Kutti told the delegation that he had already been pushing the state government saying that power utilities were duty bound to ensure uninterrupted power supply. He advised that as industry associations we too put pressure on state government.

He was hesitant to give any assurance for exempting use of DG but he certainly appeared favourable to our demand for being soft on at least small industry, as per the industrilaists.  (KNN Bureau)
